Q: Um, what’s your name?
A: Hey there lovelies, my name is Rachel Magahy (but you can call me Rach!) For the curious amongst us, my surname is pronounced “MAH-GAH-HEE.”
Hee, hee, hee!
Oh, and I’m 25 years old!
Q: Where do you live?
A: I currently live in beautiful Burleigh Heads (part of the Gold Coast region) in Queensland, Australia.
Q: Tell us a bit about your background…
A: For as long as I can remember, I have loved to write. After I finished high school, I went to Uni and completed a Bachelor of Communication degree (majoring in Marketing, Journalism and Public Relations). I did some writing, as well as some marketing/ PR work while I was studying, and was planning on going into a job in journalism.
As sometimes happens when you think you have life all sorted out and things are travelling in the right direction, all of a sudden you veer off course and find yourself careening down a very different path — which is definitely what happened to me! I was offered a fantastic job in Product Development (basically, I was designing watches) so I did that for 3 years, and was lucky enough to be sent to ultra-exciting places like Hong Kong, Tokyo, Switzerland, London and China regularly to attend client meetings and trade fairs!
The best thing about the job was that it really allowed me to indulge my passion for all things aesthetic (as well as coming up with new designs, a great deal of my time was spent trawling the Net, reading international magazines and creating trend boards for presentations) YAY!
Anyway, my desire has always been to run my own magazine. A friend and I had attempted to get one off the ground while I was at Uni, but he decided to leave the country and go travelling (not to mention the fact that the cost of printing a magazine is astronomical!!!) so it kinda all fell through! Anyway, cut to 2008 and I have now found the online answer to my lifelong dream… yep, you got it, Bright Side Lover! Woohoo!
(I also forgot to mention my current day job… so for those that were wondering, I work in PR!)

A: Anais Nin, Kofi Annan, Anthony Robbins, Hunter S. Thompson, Oprah, Vladimir Nabokov, Maynard James Keenan, Mike Patton, David LaChapelle, Miles Aldridge, Andy Warhol, Madonna, Diana Vreeland, Elizabeth Gilbert, SARK, Sofia Coppola, Anita Roddick, Eric Clapton, Quentin Tarantino, Nelson Mandela (ok, I’m going to stop now!) ;D
Q: Favourite designers? And whose sense of style makes you swoon?
A: Karl Lagerfeld (heart skips a beat!!!), Coco Chanel, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Zac Posen (for his AMAZING dresses!), Alexander Wang, Brigitte Bardot, Debbie Harry, Carine Roitfeld, Emmanuelle Alt, Edie Sedgwick, Jane Birkin, Dita Von Teese, Bianca Jagger, Anna Karina, Daphne Guiness, & Betty Catroux!
(Oh, and I’m currently crushing on Erin Wasson’s effortless ‘undone’ aesthetic!)

Q: Can you give us the vital stat’s on your website?
A: The site is hosted by Blue Host, and I use the Wordpress blogging platform. I worked closely with my tech-whiz friend, Ben Mitchell, on the design (the pretty stuff!), and he has spent a ridiculous number of hours tirelessly labouring over all the tricky back-end stuff for me! I’m very lucky! He’s got the skills, yes?!!
Q: Who designed your logo?
A: For the logo, I worked with my amazing friend Nikki Figueroa, who is a graphic designer for Billabong and oozes awesomeness!
